Herbal Tea for Natural Liver Support

5 Herbs to Infuse to Reduce Stress, Tension & Inflammation, Improve Digestion and Support Detoxification

The liver is equally important from both an eastern and western physiological perspective. In Chinese medicine, the liver is responsible for the free flow of qi and emotions, storing and nourishing blood, and it plays a vital role in the menstrual cycle. Both viewpoints understand it’s importance in detoxification, bile production, fat metabolism, and digestion.

Acupuncture is an incredible tool used to rebalance the function of the liver. Nutrition and lifestyle choices also have great influence over liver health and it’s ability to function properly. Infusing herbs at home is one easy way to provide support for your liver function!

Add hot water to herbal blend and let steep for 15-20 mins. Sip throughout the day!

Nettle Leaf

Nettle leaf reduces inflammation in the liver and increases antioxidant activity. It’s high in vitamins A, C, E, B vitamins, calcium, iron, folate, potassium, magnesium, manganese, phosphorous, selenium and zinc. It can also help reduce joint pain, skin inflammation and kidney health.

Dandelion Root

Both the root and leaves can be used from the dandelion plant. It has hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and it’s known to promote liver detoxification and increase bile flow. In traditional Chinese medicine, it can be used to promote lactation and reduces signs of mastitis (both internally and externally). It’s cooling properties can reduce the buildup of internal heat, from both a physical and emotional lens.

Mint

Mint supports detoxification and digestion, with cooling and aromatic properties. It helps move stuck liver qi, which can manifest as headaches, migraines, dizziness, PMS, red eyes and acid reflux.

Chrysanthemum

Chrysanthemum’s cooling, bitter and sweet nature calms the liver, supports detoxification and reduces inflammation. It’s great for migraines, eye sensitivities, mental restlessness and irritability. It’s properties can also support skin health by clearing rashes and external inflammation.

Goji Berries

High in vitamin C, A, B vitamins, minerals and antioxidants with anti-inflammatory properties, goji berries are one of my favorites to keep on hand. In Chinese herbalism, goji berries support the liver blood and yin, have a moistening quality and nourish eye health. They support the immune system and help balance emotions.
